Rainbow Trout & Dolly Varden:
Rainbow trout and Dolly Varden are two of Alaska’s premier sport caught fish. Both can be found on the Kenai River. Due to the abundance of salmon returning to spawn each summer, these fish feed voraciously on eggs, growing to monstrous size!
Rainbow trout are known for their fight! Even the little guys strike hard and give your rod a good flex. Match that with their brilliant, rainbow-speckled sides, it is no wonder why rainbow trout have become the poster child for Alaska’s sport fishing and Kenai River Fishing. For decades rainbows have drawn people from around the world, to the Kenai River, home of the famed 30+ behemoths!
Dolly Varden are often confused as being a trout but they are actually a char. Here on the Kenai River, these fish are a sight to be seen! In the later part of the summer when they begin to exhibit their spawning colors, you won’t be able to resist taking a million pictures of these fish. They may not be quite as aggressive on the take as a rainbow trout, but their size and striking color pattern make them an exciting catch for sure!
Sockeye & Coho Salmon:
Sockeye salmon are the life-line of the Kenai River. These salmon provide valuable food and nutrients that keep the entire ecosystem running. Sockeye salmon bring marine-derived nutrients to the streams when they die, providing food for the abundant wildlife living along the Kenai River’s shores. They are darn good eating for us humans too! There are two distinct runs of sockeye salmon on the Kenai River, and Kenai River Trout Anglers can put you on them!
Silver salmon (coho), are fighters! Like the mighty King salmon, these fish are carnivores, and aggressive! Silvers like to school together in deeper holes along the bank as they make their way up-river to spawn. Allow Kenai River Trout Anglers to take you to where these fish are and you will never want to leave! They strike hard and will give you and your rod a run for your money!
